This dress has my whole heart!!!!
I cast this dress on in April 2024 as part of my YouTube series, Magickal Making, where I combine my love of all things yarny and all things witchy and woo :)
I had this dress in my queue for a long time and felt like it would make the perfect full moon/new moon ritual dress as it was so feminine, slinky, and DIVINE!!!! I love the designer’s original sample and the deep v of the back neckline really called to me, buuuuuuut as a plunging vneck in the front!
I modified the neckline and the length of the side splits to better suit my preferences and style.
I am SO IN LOVE with how my dress turned out!!! I have worn it several times now in the Florida heat and it is holding up BEAUTIFULLY!
I highly recommend this pattern as it was SO detailed, thoughtfully written, and clear. It was also really simple to modify!
My modifications:
To deepen the v neck of the dress, I did neck increases every other row for the first 10 rows. Then I did neck increases every 4 rows through row 38, and then every other row through row 52. I did body decreases on rows 8, 20, 30, and 44. I ended up with the same number of stitches per my size in the pattern and was able to maintain ease.
This modification lengthened the arm hole of my front panel and I made sure that I added rows to my back panel to match it before joining in the round. I really like the side boob/deep arm holes so I didn’t feel a need to modify that.
I followed the pattern until after all the hip increases and then instead of working the suggested pattern rounds, I stopped once the dress was at my high hip and split for the hem.
I followed the pattern for the front and back flaps/panels and then decided not to do the hem shaping, instead adding 10 rows of garter stitch (once i reached my desired dress length), which created a really beautiful border/edging and rectangular shape.
I opted not to do any of the finishing work suggested in the pattern as I liked the raw edges of the front neckline and split hem. I did decided to add a SC row to the back of my neckline from the edge of each garter saddle to create some structure to the back of the neck. That really helped the dress to hold its shape and sit nicely without slipping off my shoulders. I did not add any finishing work to the armholes.
All in all, I adore my dress and plan on wearing it for many moons to come
