Notes

My mother is a jewelry designer, and often wears her work at shows or in her shop. Lately, she’s started to complain that her hands are cold all the time -- which makes it difficult to work with delicate metals on the fly! I’m knitting these sleeves without the decorative trim; when complete, Mom will be able to catch stitch a set of hammered copper bracelets along the hands and wrist sections. She’ll have warm hands and be able to show off her work.

February 10: I cast on (long tail) to straight needles for the first three rows. Will work through the pleats on dpns, then finish the sleeves using magic loop. I detest the fiddlyness of dpns.

March 27: Straight knitting on DPNs is much faster than I thought, and this pattern is itself incredibly simple and quick. While the pleats take work to master -- I twisted the stitches on both sleeves multiple times, before deciding that having a matching row of twisted stitches at the point where the pleats give way to the sleeves will still look like an intentional design element and moving on -- the rest of the sleeve is so straight-forward and easy that it’s a fabulous project for a relatively new knitter. Someone like me.
