This shawl is knit using a Speckle Code similar to the Speckle Code Cowl but in this design the code is only used in the lace sections. I am usually methodical in my designing but with this one I just picked up the 2 yarns with a loose idea in my head and started knitting, so it grew organically. It starts out with garter stitch, using eyelet rows to increase the size. Just when I became bored with garter stitch I started a speckle code lace section to make things interesting, when I tired of that I switched back to garter stitch… and that’s how it went. When I got to the end I really wanted to use a scalloped bind off but couldn’t find one that I liked so I made one up and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

I love the size and weight of this shawl, it hangs nicely over my shoulders and stays in place. It also looks lovely wrapped with a shawl pin. It’s a classic half-pi lace shawl but the speckled yarn and improvised lace sections give it a modern twist. The Hedgehog fibres Skinny Singles yarn is a delight to work with, beautiful colors, nice sheen, soft and springy.
