A very satisfying beginner’s project. It was my second crocheted project I think (actually, an earlier and failed version worked in a Scottish tweed. Weighted a ton, didn’t really like the colour. I never wore it. When I tried again with the specified yarn it was a breeze to work and a delight to wear.) Done in one piece, it’s interesting enough yet not too challenging to make. And the result is anything but beginner’s!

Mine is unfinished. I want to finish it with embroidery but I don’t dare yet. Work in progress then. At least I’ve found a leather obi-style belt that closes it nicely. I really didn’t want to use a brooch or a pin. I haven’t found one yet that won’t get entangled with the fabric.

I love seed stitch with a passion. This jacket feels light, soft and fluffy as a cloud. It won’t protect you against the wind, but it sure knows how to make you feel cozy. I strongly recommend Kid Classic for this project. A possible substitute could be Lamb’s Pride worsted, or something with a good balance of mohair and wool.

I might also modify the sleeves. I like the panache of those cuffs, but they are a bit of a pest to wear. I think I would work some increases at the end, or make the sleeves a lot longer and finish the cuffs with a tighter row, making them baggy. I think it might look cute, and you’d be able to wear the jacket while having a coffe on a table and not toppling the sugar bowl and the mug as you reach for the cream jug. They are quite mighty, those sleeves!

My one ‘complaint’? It looks very ‘bedjacketty’. Oh well.

---Frogged now. As much as I loved it, I never wore it. Too thick under a coat, no protection against the wind on its own, and too pretty and delicate to wear around the house, not to mention the sleeve issue (they got in the way of everything.) I kept thinking of all that gorgeous Kid Classic permanently shut in the wardrobe and I became greedy.

Kid Classic endured the frogging remarkably well, by the way. It will become a favourite jumper, I’m sure, whenever I can find some time for it.
