Notes

Made for my hubby with lovey Malabrigo Rios. I was inspired to knit this when we had a really snowy cold winter. Hubby’s poor cold face needed some protection. Now that I’ve knit this, I’ve secured a mild next winter.

Cast on 108 sts on US8 metal cubics with Blue Jean yarn. Used German Twisted Cast On (this is a good video to demonstrate). Personally, I don’t care for the video that is linked in the pattern.

I was delayed starting because I couldn’t find my needles! Well, the ones I wanted to use. Didn’t want to use the wood (brown) needles with dark yarn.

Icelandic Bind Off
I didn’t like the video linked in pattern so much. I liked this video better. One thing to note. When you drop the stitches off the needle, it looks very loose, but when you put back on the left needle and twist the stitch to fix the mounting, that snugs up nicely. All that to say, trust the process, do the steps, and it will be fine.

I stuck with the US8 needle and did not change to a larger needle for the stockinette portion. I didn’t want it to be too big. I think that was the right decision. Knit to 5 inches and tried it on hubby. Looked like it was time to start decreases. I then knit one more set up row adding markers for decreases. Tried it on him after a few decrease rounds and it looks like that was a good decision.

It seems the largest size has some fit problems. I think they didn’t exactly scale it up properly. I’m basing this opinion on my experience with the pattern and also reading some other’s comments. I would not blindly follow the pattern, but try it on the wearer as you go if possible.
