Phew this was one heck of a project. I began it literally right before I hopped on board a flight to Iceland. We were headed there to check out wedding venues (which was successful!) and I told myself I would make an Icelandic-inspired sweater. Little did I know that once there, a wealth of English (!!) Icelandic patterns would be at my fingertips for purchase. (To follow at a later date.) The name of the project comes from Lopapeysa, which everytime I said, someone would ask “A Load of Paper?!”
Anyways, what mods did I do?
I increased an extra 4 sts in each arm, and compensated for this in the underarm area by increasing four stitches just a few rows before binding off. Definitely a needed bit of room. I also did a three color sweater - easy and well worth it in my opinion. I made a slightly elongated arm/cuff - also well worth it. I put my button holes every 12 sts, which gave me 10 in total, rather than 9, important in covering up larger bust area and preventing gaping. I did not put in a final button hole at the neck, it would have been extremely uncomfortable and I would never have used it anyways, so I couldn’t see spending an extra $1.50 on a button I’d never use! I do love the buttons though, purchased from Brooklyn General and a nice white pearl.
I learned a lot with my first real stranded work - the arms definitely needed more give so that I can hike them up when I need to do the dishes, etc.
