Notes

Another fantastic design by Irene Lin. I just finished her Rota Jumper with long sleeves. This one is literally flying off my needles since I have already memorized the very interesting eyelet stitch pattern which is common to both designs.

I cast on over a size 7 US needle to keep the back neck loose. Then I switched to size 5 US needles for the rest of the upper body.

I’m not crazy about this yarn which is very splitty and not of uniform width. It varies from very thin (lace weight) to aran, but it seems to average out to about a DK weight. Nevertheless, it worked well for this project. I love the intense blue color which is not a solid color since two strands are royal blue and one strand is navy blue. It’s a 3-ply yarn with very little twist to it.

Pickup ratio specified in the pattern for armholes and neckline ribbing worked out perfectly.

What I did differently:

For the split hem, I prefer a dfferent kind of edging, so I did the following:

Beggining of every row (except for the first row with cables) - With yarn in front, slip the first stitch purlwise.

End of every row - Knit the last stitch of every row.

Needles used:

Size 5 US - Top part until I used up the first ball of yarn. Then I switch to size 6 US needles. I also used size 5 US needles for the lower ribbing (split hem), as well as the neck and armhole ribbing.

Size 6 US - Changed to this size about 4.5” below the underarm (measured before adding armsceye ribbing).

Size 7 US - Starting at the second to last repeat before the split hem. This was about 6.75” below the underarm (before adding armsceye ribbing). I used this size all the way to the split hem at which point I switched to size 5 US needles.

Weight of finished garment: 7.6 oz (216 grams)

Length from underarm (not including armhole ribbing and before blocking) - 14.5” / 36.8 cm (12” + 2.5” ribbing)
Finished garment didn’t really need any blocking.

kimmyz's adjectives for this yarn
  1. Varies in thickness from lace to aran (thick and thin)
  2. Not particularly soft due to the linen. Will soften with washing.
  3. Very splitty due to very little twist.
