Thanks again to Christine for the cute free pattern! This is my last FO for 2016. Such a quick and easy knitting project. Will try to get some better (modeled) photos soon.
Needed a commuting project, so grabbed some yarn from my stash. Although I used the same pattern and needle size, this second hat turned out considerably larger than the first one. It just goes to show that the type of yarn can make a huge difference in the size of the FO- all other things being equal. This yarn is obviously much more stretchy than the Lion Brand “Unforgettable” that I used in last week’s hat. The latter is a roving-type, single ply yarn which doesn’t have much, if any give to it. The yarn used for this beanie is a conventional plied yarn.
As before, I knitted with 2 strands of yarn held together. In spite of the fact that the GALA yarn was purchased at Big Lots, the quality of this yarn is excellent. It’s softness is probably due to the nylon and/or polyester in the “Mixed Fiber”. The white was a heavier “aran” weight yarn and not nearly as soft. I probably didn’t need to use it double. To balance out the size of that section, I added an additional round of blue in the next section. I followed the pattern exactly except for that and a couple of extra rounds of stockinette to prevent purl tracks when I changed colors. The hat turned out great, but it needs a white pom pom on top or even better would be some white stars.
I followed the pattern exactly (72 stitch cast on). There are two minor errors in the written pattern ….
Under garter stitch description it should say:
…..purl (P) until end of round
Under moss stitch description it says “repeat those 4 rounds” when in fact, the moss stitch is only done for a total of 6 rounds (according to the pattern photo). And later on in the pattern is says “6 rounds of moss stitch”.
