Such a fun knit.
Improvised the Viking Helmet pattern. Started by casting on 6 stitches and increased up to 32 keeping the 4 stitch stockinette pattern in center of helmet.
Followed the body pattern but missed the final increase to 54 stitches. Added belt where I thought it looked good.
Used the curly fringe beard and nose from Adventure Gnome pattern. When I unraveled beard I also separated yarn plies making beard extra thick and curly.
Improvised shield using basic circular pi shawl recipe. Increased every stitch on second knit round, then knit till I thought it was big enough. Bound off in a different color.
The axe is a 2 stitch i-cord around a twist tie. The axe head was just increased one stitch at start of row to get triangle shape .
Added straps to back of shield with chain crochet.
