This pattern is designed for DK wool, but I’m making the boots using aran, as it makes them so much stronger and less gappy.
The boots were requested in a nice shade of green… something modern and not the typical baby pastels that are always around, so I knitted up a couple of test pieces in two different shades of green for Jo to choose from (see the picture).
When I went to show them to her she decided straight away to go for the darker green, which is Hayfields Aran yarn.
I work with Jo, and her boss who was sitting next to her at the time saw the boots and loved them and straight away asked me to make some for one of his friends too, so a double commission in one go…. it’s all in day’s work really.
I’ll keep posting updates to show how the commission is getting on.
7th July update:
Completed one pair of the boots and handed them over to their rightful owner :)
Also making speedy progress on the jacket. I’ve got the back and left front complete and am making my way through the right front now. I’m hoping by the end of tonight to have the right front complete and at least one arm.
I need to be super speedy with all of this because I’ve been having lots of exciting commissions coming through lately!
It’s exciting :)
8th July:
Ok so I didn’t quite get as far as I wanted too last night because I ended up getting a bit side tracked with sorting out a domain name for a website in the making and then ended up looking into getting buisness cards printed, so I can encourage other people to give me commissions to knit items for them from their chosen patterns, but I did complete the right front and am now half way through the first sleeve.
This weekend in going to be my marathon knitting weekend because I want to get the jackets finished and the additional pair of boots completed too, so next week I can move onto other projects that are on the go.
11th July:
It’s almost complete!!!
I have all of the jacket knitted up, it’s now just a case of sewing it all together and adding the buttons, which means a trip to the shop after work. I’m thinking duffle coat style buttons.
Then I need to complete the second pair of boots that have been requested as part of this commission. The aim is to have it all done ready for Jo tomorrow and then I can get on with the next commission, whilst also trying to build up a stock lot of knitted goods to sell at a craft fair that’s coming up in November at my place of work.
Yesterday I got my webpage up and running about taking commissions, so that’s got the ball rolling with that. At the minute it is just a webpage as part of a anohter site, but it does have my own domain name, so the plan is to turn it into a proper website if (fingers crossed) it takes off and some commissions start rolling in.
I’m in need of taking lots of photos of the knitted goodies me and my mum have been knitting to add to flickr so people can see more of what we can do.
Lots to do and lots going on but I’m loving it.
12th July, 2011
And the job is done!!!
Last night I finished getting the second pair of boots knitted and sewn up and sewed together all the bits for the jacket. Both items have know been handed over to Jo, so she can give them as a present for her expectant friend and she was really happy with how they turned out.
Now it’s on to the next project…
