I’ve decided to try making this a double knit for warmth with the cabled bubbles in a contrasting color. I set up the ribbing to be K1P1 except for the bubbles motif. There I set up the ribbing to meld into the bubbles motif after the ribbing is done. I also left off the first section of cast on stitches. The numbers made no sense to me at all. So I cast on according to actual size of the pattern instead.

03-24-2019

Update: my son lost his hat in the woods about a month ago. It was finally found when the snow melted, albeit a little worse for wear. I repaired one hole that was just in the reverse stockinette section but am a little uncertain about repairing the cables sections.

I finally worked on the repairs. For the Coco cable, I created an i-cord and tacked it down. For Coco reverse stockinette, I created a flap and sewed it down. I’m going to call that good enough. We’ll see if it holds up.
