The sixth sock in the UK Sock Knitters 2019 Challenge.

There are 18 groups in the periodic table and this year I will be knitting a sock to represent an element from each of them. Click the link above to follow my progress on the whole project in one notebook post !

The April Sock Represents Zirconium or rather or its most well known dioxide (ZrO2) which in its cubic crystalline form is known as Cubic Zircona.

The synthesized material is hard and usually colorless, but may be made in a variety of different colors. It can be almost indistinguishable from diamonds other than by Thermal conductivity (Cubic zirconia is a thermal insulator whereas diamond is the most powerful thermal conductor)

Anni at North Shire Yarns took inspiration from the rainbow prisms that dance on the surface of diamonds or rather Cubic Zircona (shhhh I won’t tell if you wont)
