I made one of these before this pattern came out, so mine’s a bit different, but still very similar. Both mine and this pattern use 4 repeats of a 22-stitch pattern for the main chart. I used 3 strands of Woolike held together for mine. Lettering and red sts in main chart are duplicate stitch.

Mods:
Ribbing - CO 90 with size 8, switched to size 3 for ribbing (1x1 twisted rib for 7 rows), switched back to size 8 for stockinette.

Red zigzags - Mine are both like Chart 4.

Top - In Chart 3, row 18: (k9, k2tog) (8x) to dec to 80 sts.
After Chart 4, (k16, pm) around.
Next row: (ssk, knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, sm) around.
Next row: knit
Repeated last 2 rows until 10 sts were left
Cut yarn leaving 12” tail, wove through remaining sts, pulled tight, left tail to attach braid
(Note: I’ve never done paired decreases like this on a hat before, but it’s what RL did, so I tried it. I love that it makes a little starfish on top!)

Braid - measured out 36 strands (would be 12 strands with aran weight yarn) at 20”, braided, wrapped ends with red yarn, leaving tassel on each end, used yarn tail left at top of hat to attach braid (at it’s mid-point) to top.

Lettering - made my own lettering charts by scrutinizing the RL photos really closely, but I think I like the pattern’s lettering charts better.
