Notes

9-16-2013: An updated photo of this newly-washed blanket. Made nearly 4 years ago and used almost daily by the entire family and the dog too. I’m so very impressed by the quality of this Cascade Ecological Wool - the pilling is very, very minimal, almost non-existent after several washings. Cascade Yarns produces great yarns. Interesting that this morning photo with a better camera is much more representative of the correct color of the blanket - my old photos were taken at night with lamp light which added a lot of yellow.
Finished 11-21-2009: I love this. The little red heart in the corner is to remind my son that his mom loves him. (Thanks for the idea, Sandy - it’s a great one.) Lightly steaming the seams worked like a charm.
Update 11-20-2009: I’ve finished knitting & seaming and I’m starting on a 4-stitch I-cord border today. Used the instructions in Interweave’s Compendium of Finishing Techniques. This blanket is so huge, it will cover my son, his wife and my two grandkids all at once for T.V. watching!
October 22, 2009: I’m making this blanket due to fabulous photos and obvious warm, squishy factor of BrooklynTweed’s Big Squishy Lovefest Blanket. I’m using Elizabeth Zimmermann’s pattern as published in the book “Vogue Knitting American Collection”, but I’m following Jared Flood’s lead in casting on 36 sts instead of 24, using size 13’s, wrapping the short row turns (I’m double wrapping; see instructions here) in order to eliminate holes, holding the Ecowool double, and I’m slipping the first stitch as if to knit and purling the last stitch.
