This pattern was so much fun! And I am very happy with how my scarf turned out!

Working notes:

• Used slightly larger hooks: 6.0 mm and 6.5 mm for the main body of the scarf. Used 5 mm for facial features.
• Used alternating hdc/sc instead of pattern stitch for green section.

Update February 11:

• I’ve sewn on the remaining face pieces and purple dots.
• I re-did the mouth for Mike. I made a chain then sewed it on.
• I lengthened the fringe to 7”.

Update February 13:

I decided to not carry the yarns on the color changes of the horns. I’m not sure about the instructions for the rows, but I seemed to keep confusing myself on the stitch and row count. Plus the my stash of Caron SS was really too thin. I spent too much time figuring out how to make it work. Next time I buy the RHSS!

So because I cut the yarns on each change on the horns, I had lots of ends to weave in and fill the gaps of the thin yarn. That made the horns more solid looking, and gave me ends for sewing to the scarf.

Sully’s horns in particular had to be sewn in several spots along the sides to make the curved shape.

I also re-worked Mike’s horns, and enlarged my embroidery of the whites of the eyes too. Much better!

I am very happy with my scarf! I’ll use the leftover turqua and green to make a simple hat.

My gauge (6.5 mm hook)

• Both sections: 20 sts = 7” wide.
• Spring Green section: 11 rows = 4”.
• Turqua section: 8 rows = 4”.

My RHSS yarns and substitutes from my stash:

• Turqua.
• Spring Green.
• White.
• Black (used Premier Everyday Soft Worsted).
• Blue.
• Lavender.
• Cream (used Caron SS in “off-white”).
• Tan (used Caron SS in “bone”).

I tested some Lion Brand Tweed Stripes for the horns. They actually look pretty good, but they don’t match in texture. And they really don’t look like the animated characters. So I stuck with the original color and stripe idea from the pattern.

UPDATE 9/2014: I’m planning to add to my Annual Faves set/tab at the end of each year. But I already know that this is my favorite project to wear from 2014. It makes everyone smile, including me.
