Using leftover in washable cotton blends, the yarns are working tighter just fine, fortunately.

I used the smaller cast-on stitches, knit the longer length before decreasing. Need to figure out a button/closure that is classy for my friend!

Update: didn’t have any buttons that worked, so I crocheted the 5-petal flower instead - I like how it turned out.
