Notes

A sweater for ME! I’ve done cables before but never a complicated cabled sweater. This is a little adventure.

Jan 22nd - Got perfect gauge with size 7 needles. Onward!

Jan 24th - Finished the back bottom ribbing and a few rows into the pattern. I’m sure it’ll get better, but right now it’s slow going. A lot of paying attention.

Jan 25th - Already getting easier after about 1/2 way through the panel B pattern. Took some measurements and I plan on lengthening the back to 14 inches (instead of 12 3/4 for the M) til the arm shaping. Uploaded some progress pics!

Feb 1st - Just performed surgery on my sweater back after I noticed an incorrectly turned cable several rows back. Followed the Yarn Harlot’s link below and it worked like a dream. A little nerve racking, but much easier then I thought it would be. Back measures 12 inches so far - almost at the arm holes.

Feb 2nd - Finished the back just before the Superbowl half time begins. Woot!

Feb 5th - Started the left front. Decided to do 1 front at a time in order to make it seem like it’s going faster. Did not do the increases after the ribbed band. Instead I just cast on the full amount (55 stitches for the medium). I saw this modification in others projects but not until after the back was complete.

Feb 15th - Finished left front. I am mirroring the helix pattern on the fronts to match the changes I made on the back.

Feb 22nd - Both fronts finished! Starting the sleeves!

March 29th - Finished both sleeves. A bunch of stops and starts stretched out the knitting time….but, I’m finally done with them. Time to block everything!

Blocking - Wow! I wet block the pieces because that’s how I’ve always blocked everything. They grow exponentially if you wet block! Use caution! Hopefully all the pieces will still lay nicely and fit together. I can now see why the pattern says to just pin and cover with a wet towel. Holy cow!

April 1st - Shoulder seams and neck/front ribbing with button holes complete. “Tried it on” and the size still feels good. I was worried about the size after the wet blocking but it seems OK. Onward to put in the sleeves and sew the side seams. I’m so excited to finish this thing!

All sewed together and ends woven in. Currently blocking the front ribbed band because it was pulling up too tight. After it dries I will add buttons and take pictures. Lots of pictures!

Alterations:

  • Mirrored the “helix” pattern just by twisting one of the panels in the opposite direction on row 13 every time.

  • Skipped the increases after all the ribbed bands after reading everyone’s notes. Didn’t read it until after the back was finished - hopefully any puffiness on the back can be blocked out.

  • Lengthened the body by a couple inches.

  • Lengthened the sleeves by an inch and 1/4.
