Instead of doubling worsted weight yarn I’m using a single strand of Eco Wool like I’ve done for my other purses.
9/3/10: Finished knitting bag. Need to felt. I look like “Cousin It” from the Adam’s Family. I’m 5’7” if that helps you get an idea of it’s size unfelted. lmfao!!
Felted and dry. I went against everything I believe in and threw this in the dryer to dry (permanent press) hoping it would shrink some more. This, after felting it “hard” for over an hour.
Anyways, it turned out a good size for me. I put the 2 1/2” ring up to show size and the leather handle I got at Overstock.com for $13.98 plus $1 shipping for two of them. I’m giving the other handle to my friend for her purse. Very nice handle and soft leather. Beats the heck out of the one they are selling to go with it. I believe it was around $50. I don’t think so. I’m just too cheap.
Now I’m making the belt to go around it. I didn’t want to make it earlier because I wasn’t sure how short to felt it until after the purse was done and dried. I’ve knitted the tabs that connect the handle to the purse and will felt them with the belt.
9/15/10: Well; Everything felted great. The biggest bitch was trying to get the rivets through 3 pieces of felt (tabs folded over and into the bag) YIKES!!! Never swore so much in my life. Got the 8mm rivets from Joann Fabrics which were even a little longer than the ones online. If I ever make this purse again; which I won’t; I will buy the rivets and rivet putter oner online at /www.dreamweaveryarns.com. Their rivet putter oner looks like it would work soooo much better than the cheesy one I bought at Joann Fabrics. Made my own pockets from some fabric I had laying around and a 9” Jeans zipper. You can see them where I have the purse inside out. Have one more to make and sew in then I can put that belt on and cinch that sucker in. Can’t wait.
Oh yeah; I cut out a piece of that plastic stuff that people embroider on with yarn around 4 x 10” and glued it with my favorite glue in the world : Beacon Adhesives Fabri-Tac and then glued the fabric onto that……heehee.
I’m such a moron: I only had 8 rivets left so I couldn’t afford to screw up even one. Of course; I put them in backwards; oh well, I did them all that way and am calling it a “design feature”
Oh yeah, about the pockets; Noni….eat your heart out!
