Notes

I tried first with my favorite silk blend, TFC Acadia, a light DK. I didn’t get the gauge of 18 unless I stretched it until the swatch was see-through and too fragile. So I added this lovely DiC Suzette, a sport weight 50-50 merino silk blend with beautiful shine, and together my post-block gauge was a perfect 18. The fabric is substantial and thicker, and I saw another Rav user make a long sleeve sweater with this, so I’m making a plan now.

Note: I did notice some dye loss when I was squeezing out the swatch, from the Suzette.

Beginning the third time working Chart 3, I switched to size US 6 needles from 5. This was at approximately 2.5” from the armpit caston edge.

The Suzette yarn is discontinued, so to preserve it for the sleeves I did the ribbing with Pascuali Arctic Pearl, an interesting yarn made from seaweed (lyocell). I held it double on the body rib with the Thistle (2 strands of Arctic Pearl, 1 strand Acadia).

Bound off body rib with Jeny’s Stretchy Bind Off, using US 3 needle and only 1 strand of Arctic Pearl and 1 strand of Acadia. This worked well for my hip flare without creating a rippled edge.

Starting to add the arms, using the same yarns as the body and with US 6. K2P2.

The ribbed arms take a lot more yardage than regular arms would. Factor that in. But they’re nice and stretchy for large arms! Total win for me.

I found another source for the yarns, so I was able to create these nice long sleeves! They aren’t as long as they look, ending about 2” past my wrist. I’m really happy with it -- obviously not a summer top anymore!
I can’t remember what size I made now. Hmmm. Maybe size 5.
