A crochet lace collar and picot hem make this Lace and Hearts dress extra special.

A cast on of 96 or 88(11 chart repeats) would work for this dress.

The picot hem involves a bit more knitting and half that knitting is folded under. Using straight needles, I did a long tail cast on of 96 stitches and knit three rows of stockinette starting and ending with purl rows. On the fourth row, I knit eyelets: “knit 2 tog, yarn over” for the entire row; then did three more rows of stockinette starting and ending with purl again. I folded the hem making certain I lined up the first cast on stitch with the first on the needle, and knit through two stitches at a time with the black yarn. I turned the work and knit the next row to create a garter ridge, then began knitting in the round following the chart. Make certain you still have 96 stitches on the needles. I did 12 repeats of the chart shown on the left.

The collar was done with a 2.5mm crochet hook and No. 10 cotton thread. I followed the collar pattern in Julie Williams’ Textured Dresses pattern linked above.

This Lace and Hearts dress has a few extra touches…the crochet lace collar and picot hem. But those can be removed to simplify the dress. No collar and a simple garter stitch hem would look good too.

The bunny was knit on 2.75mm neeedles using Sublime extra fine merino DK in caramel.
