Notes

This little bunny is wearing a sweet gingham dress with heart flowers along the hem. The dress also features a pocket which holds her very tiny toy bunny. She’s keeping off the early spring chill with a capelet that features a crochet edging to match the one on her dress.

Using a long tail cast on of 96 stitches on straight ( or 24 inch circular) needles and following the chart shown on the left, I knit three rows to create two white garter stitch rows (shown as the first three white rows on the chart), switched to the darker yellow yarn and knit two more rows to create a one more row of garter stitch. I joined in the round on the sixth row of the chart.

For the pocket placement, I only did 11 repeats of the chart leaving blank the area where the fifth heart would be . To be more specific, I did 4 repeats of the chart (four heart flowers), skipped one repeat and knit 11 stitches in white, carrying the other colors behind. After the 11 white stitches, I resumed the chart completing 7 more heart flowers. I followed my usual modifications found here. When doing the two decrease rows at the waist, I continued in the colors of the gingham pattern used in rows 24 and 25.

The fancy hem was a simple crochet pattern. Using a 2.5 hook and fingering weight yarn work along the cast on bottom edge of the dress starting at the back seam with the dress right side out…slip stitch in first stitch, skip one, single crochet 4 stitches in next stitch, skip one stitch, slip stitch in next….repeat to end.

In the white space with no flower, I added a pocket.
Eleven stitches were picked up in row 7 of the dress(first row of green leave and knit the pocket in stockinette to the desired length. I bound off and stitched the pocket sides to the dress. A patch pocket could be knit separately and sewn on the dress too.

For the capelet, I followed Julie Williams capelet pattern (linked above) working with the pink yarn until the cape was 1 3/8 inches long. Then I knit 4 rows creating two rows of white garter stitch. After binding off, I crocheted the same border as on the hem of the dress.

The wee pocket bunny is from Julie Williams” pattern “Teeny Tiny Knitted Toys”. I used Knit Picks Stroll fingering weight yarn in white and 2.0mm needles. I did not make the arms and legs and I used a bit less stuffing in the body so the bunny could fit nicely in the pocket.

Knit picks palette yarn was used for all the garments. The bunny was knit using Sublime Extra Fine Merino dk in caramel.
