A summer dress featuring a garden of hearts, summer stripes and a handy pocket!

I used a long tail cast on of 96 stitches, and did 12 repeats of the chart pictured on the left. I followed my usual dress modifications found here The first 5 rows are garter stitch done on straight needles before joining in the round on row 6. The long tail cast on is row 1.

I added a small pocket in the front in place of the seventh heart flower. I followed the chart for the green stems and leaves but skipped the heart. If I were to knit this again with a pocket, I would leave the entire area between heart flower 6 and 8 white, carrying the yarns behind.

For this very tiny pocket, seven stitches were picked up in row 9 of the dress. The pocket was knit flat in 10 rows of stockinette with a knitted bind off on the last row. The pocket sides were stitched to the dress. As an alternative, a patch pocket could be knit separately and sewn on.

The dress would also look great with no pocket!

The bunny was knit on 2.75mm neeedles using Sublime extra fine merino DK in caramel.
