I used the notes from javallas’ 1898 Hats mult. sizes as a starting point, following the numbers for the 18” size but casting on 23 stitches to start instead of 21, picking up 70 stitches for the crown and knitting until the hat measured 4 1/2 inches. Then I knit 3 more rounds before starting the decreases and I omitted the last 2 plain rounds at the top of the crown.

Final dimensions are approx 18” circ and 6 1/2” high from bottom of front band to top of crown.
