Notes

For VHC project.

Holding beige yarn doubled.

4.5” L x 3.25 W x 1.5 D

Size 2.5 needles for crust, size 3 for filling.

9” pie dish in photo

Mods/pattern clarifications:
Outer edge: 14 rows instead of 10. (I wanted a deeper pie to accommodate more cherry filling.)

Cherry filling: K 1 row, P 1 row before beginning pattern (to make attaching to bottom crust more manageable later)

Always pass bobble st back to other needle after completing and turn.

I think Row 3 of filling should read:
k4, *then k1, yfwd, k1, yfwd, k1 into
same stitch; turn and p5; turn and k5; turn, sl2
knitwise, k3tog, psso, pass bobble st back to other needle, turn, k2* Repeat 14 times, k1.

Doubled the filling section (repeated rows 1-4) so I ended up with 4 cherry/bobble rows.

Seaming (my nemesis):

  • Used a stitch marker to mark the center stitch of the cherry filling so that when seaming, I could ensure the tip of the crust would be seamed somewhat on-center.
  • Began w/short vert-vert stockinette seam connecting 1 short edge of filling to 1 short edge (“outer edge”) of crust from top to bottom.
  • Then continued around corner and seamed the bottom long edge of filling to triangle crust base using vert-to-horiz seam.
  • Eventually I reach the other short edge and seam that vert-vert from bottom to top.
  • Now that I’m on the top, I seam the top long edge to triangle crust top using vert-to-horiz seam.
  • Began stuffing when I only had a few inches left open to seam.

Had to rip back portions of seaming numerous times when things weren’t lining up correctly. The top tip of my crust is still a little crooked but I’ve decided to accept it.

Stuffed with “a touch of silk” polyfill like the rest of the items for this project. Wasn’t sure if foam or something stiff would be safe for a small child.

Sept 15: Started seaming pieces but cherry filling isn’t quite deep enough. Need to backtrack and either add another bobble row or decrease height of back of pie (outer edge) by 2 rows.

Sept 17: Undid seaming, added an extra bobble row and completed.
