Pattern called for Rows 1 & 3 to be purl, and
Row 2: K1, ssk, (yo, k1) 3 times, yo, k2tog, repeat, end k1.

Row 4: K1, ssk, k5, k2tog, repeat, end k1.

Since I was using DK and large needles, was designing as a cowl, and she also mentioned adding additional stitches to set off the pattern better, I did the following:
provisional cast on of 23 sts
and for rows 2 & 4:
Row 2: K1, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, (yo, k1) 3 times, yo, k2tog, repeat to end, k1, ssk, yo, k1
Row 4: k1, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, k5, k2tog, repeat to end, k1, ssk, yo, k1

Did this for about 48 inches, and after finishing Row 4 did a kitchener graft to create the cowl.
