Notes

4/29/18 - Used US 3/3.25mm for the DK yarn - cast on 60sts but after finishing, realized it was a little loose so will probably cast on 54 sts for the other wine cozy using DK yarn (brown stripes with blue speckles). As I did a few years ago, modified this to do in the round instead of flat.

5/3/18 - For the chunky/bulky weight yarn, cast on 36sts with size 9/5.5mm needles.

5/7/18 - realized that I might not finish another DK wine cozy, so talked my son into a chunky yarn that had purple in it (his teacher’s favorite color). So glad he was agreeable cuz I’m nearly done with it. Then I’ll just need to weave in ends on all 4 and make the ropes…I anticipate I’ll get most of this completed tonight/tomorrow.

5/9/18 - All done, got pics this morning. The chunky weight ones turned out better than the DK, but I just didn’t have time to redo the DK with 54sts instead, to tighten it up. It actually looks better on the bottle of sparkling water (it’s 33oz bottle instead of wine’s 750ml/25oz), or would look good on a bottle of sparkling wine.

Additional Modifications:

  • In all cases when doing the faux-icord, I turned the cozy inside out before attempting to pick up stitches below the working row. I used an additional needle to put those stitches on, then knit 1st from the top needle with 1 st from the bottom needle, similar to a 3-needle bind-off, but no actual binding off. :)
  • For the DK, I picked up stitches 8 rows below the working row
  • For the Baby Blossom Chunky I picked up 4 rows below
  • And for the Tweed Stripes chunky I picked up 5 rows below.
