Notes
  • CO with size 6 needles with German Twisted Cast-on, switched to Size 8 needles after a couple of rows.

  • Knit to approx 9” - 10” before crown.

  • Did SSK instead of K2tog in crown.

  • Skipped the last two rows of the crown to reduce the point at the top. Ended with twelve stitches.

  • Knitting up thank you Cowls/Hats for the Staff in Unit D at the Long Island State Veterans Home who take excellent care of my Dad and many other Vets.

  • Approx 20-25 staff members, will be Hats and Cowls.

2.15.2017 I am so, so sad to update that the facility
will not allow my knitted gifts to be given to the many staff members.
A rule. I get the idea of not allowing “monetary gifts”’ but geez. Almighty.

I knew that this isn’t cash. It is only heart and soul knitting, and my worn fingertips, and I’m not so young myself, and that I purposefully ordered 100% washable wool from U.K., and that I chose certain colors, and that I chose a very multi-size friendly pattern, and that I made sure I had enough hats to have “extra”. And that I ordered business cards to print out fiber content, etc. And that I then also knit another two dozen Cowls for other staff members to be sure I was all-inclusive.

I have knit for many months, for “everyone” on staff…idea was they could all pick from a big choice of items, and that “everyone” was included. Sort of the same as putting out a tray of baked goods, this was a tray of knitwear.
I am bummed. My Dad lives here. The care is amazing. We want to share our thanks with every single staff member.
