Knitting: Coat / Jacket
The “German Staple” raglan sleeve cardigan is exactly that – a wardrobe staple that goes with anything. It is knitted from the top down with raglan sleeves, and features the traditional garter stitch fabric with a small heart in stranded colour work on the back.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
My friend Mairtin, who works as a tour guide here in Ireland and who is an expert in Neolithic history, recently published images of sherds of a Bronze Age pottery food vessel found at an excavation site at Fourknocks in County Meath by Mr. P. J. Hartnett in 1950 - 1952. In his publication, Mairtin had worked a drawing of what the completed pot...
Knitting: Pullover
The “Meissen Sweater” was inspired by the beautifully shaped and painted ornate designs of Meissen porcelain from my native Germany. This sweater is light and airy, and I added textured ribbing and lace details to copy the filigree edging of the porcelain pieces. The “Tulip lace design” which trails along the sides and sleeve centres was first ...
Knitting: Cuffs
A very close friend of mine was recently diagnosed with dementia. I remember our many nature hikes with his dog, and decided to knit a twiddle muff to keep his active hands busy.
Knitting: Sleeveless Top
The “Hessian Apron” in sizes small, medium and large adds a contemporary twist to the design of the traditional heavily embellished costume from my native area in Germany. While I maintained the pleated “Schürze” or apron shape in its’ earthy colors, which is worn over fitted tops and layered skirts, I added vertical stripes, and incorporated t...
Knitting: Balaclava
I designed this set of matching balaclavas for my German “step daughter” and her dog. I marred both our cultures by combining the traditional Irish “Aran bobble & cable” design with a 19th Century German “Lochstreifen” (or “hole strip”) sock lace pattern in the human hat. For the dog version I combined a German open cable with a central eye...
Knitting: Scarf
My friend received this beautiful PURL SOHO yarn in the post and was not able to use it. Returning wool orders in Ireland is expensive, so instead she handed it to me with a broken heart and said “I am sure you will do something nice with this”.
Knitting: Scarf
Here in Ireland we are surrounded by gorse flowers, the first sign of the approaching summer.
Knitting: Scarf
This pattern was my attempt at a “male” Brioche pattern as a present to my son.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat is knitted in 2-colour syncopated brioche and matches my “Brioche Wee Heathers Scarf”.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This Brioche hat matches my “Brioche Endless Tree Scarf” and comes in sizes s, m and l.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf is a combination of 4 Brioche patterns of intermediate difficulty level. It was my first design try, and I developed it as an exercise to practice my “Brioche stitch counting skills”, which caused me problems at the start. Its’ “sister” pattern called “Brioche Endless Tree Hat” is also available here.
Knitting: Scarf
This 1-colour beginners Brioche scarf pattern is based on our traditional “Aran” patchwork-style design and the traditional Aran stitches. I designed it to equip you with all stitches necessary to master Brioche.
Knitting: Scarf
This pattern was inspired by William Morris’s drawings of the root system of plants, so it has a true “Arts & Crafts feel”. When wearing this, I was often asked “how did you do this?”, because the stitches look much more difficult to do than they are to knit!
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf is knit in 2-colour Brioche. The 18 cm wide shawl consists of one pattern block; the scarf can be widened by knitting additional blocks.
