Knitting: Mittens
The Night Walk Mittens are rather tightly knitted, using Swedish 3-ply Wool Yarn from Ullcentrum Öland, rustic Gammelnorsk Spaelsau 2-ply Wool yarn and/or Lettlopi, which makes them very durable and warm but soft. As long as you can get the correct gauge, you can also use thinner yarn. I even made a very light version using Rauma Finull PT2.

The “First Snowfall Socks” are inspired by the first snowfall, that came early this year in the beginning of November. It made me want to cuddle up under a warm blanket, drink a cup of hot tea and knit a pair of cozy colourwork socks with a snowflake pattern.

This sock pattern is inspired by the Swedish term Vårvinter, which names the season between winter and spring. In “spring winter”, “late winter” or “early spring” the powerful sunlight and warmer temperatures come back after the long and dark winter time.

The pattern “Vägvarda Socks” popped up in my mind, when we visited the oldest farm houses in the little village Örträsk in South Lappland / North Sweden. The flower motifs on the nicely painted walls reminded me of chicory flowers - called vägårda in Swedish.

After spending many hours in the cold under a sky full of magically twinkling stars in the north of Sweden, we were lucky to see northern lights, from faint to breathtaking marvellous. This unforgettable experience inspired me to create a pattern, which I therefore called Winter Stars (even available on Ravelry as Winter Stars Mittens).
