An Independent designer since 2014, I’ve been juggling design projects and traveling to teach at festivals and yarn shops with writing a new book. it’s a big serious new book on cables, due out in October ‘16, details to come. Published by Stewart Tabori and Chang, edited by Melanie Falick and Jared Flood did the awesome photography.
– I’m proud and happy to be a member of the Brooklyn Tweed design team.
– The Fibre Co provided an opportunity to design a modern new collection focusing on being fun and easy to knit.
– If you can’t come to class in person, you’ll find me on Creativebug.
A bit of history – I freelanced for years, for yarn companies and magazines, like Vogue Knitting and Interweave Knits. Through an agent, I had fun selling swatches to 7th avenue. He was off pounding the pavement while I was home delving deeper and deeper into twisted stitches and cables. For 6 years I was the design director at JCA Crafts which included Reynolds Yarn, Artful Yarns and Adrienne Vittadini Handknitting yarns. Most recently, I spent 9 years as the Design Director at Berroco Yarns.
Note: Sometimes it’s hard to fathom how very different the model of business was when I freelanced. I don’t own those designs (or write the finished patterns, or have any records of the patterns). The same is true for my stints on staff at yarn companies. The companies own the patterns, provided the tech editing and pattern support, etc. No complaints from me, I was paid fairly for my work, it’s just that I can’t really help much with pattern questions.
