Virginia Blocher

Hi, I’m a Texan who now calls Paris, France home. While living in Japan in 2006 I have to thank my local japanese yarn shop and youtube for teaching me to knit my first project, a japanese pattern for a 1x1 ribbed scarf. Knitting turned out to be a vitally needed creative outlet and I was quickly obsessed ! Then I moved to France and after a two year hiatus, I’m back at it again, and even more seriously this time, as I went back to school to complete a fashion knitwear design degree at l’Ecole de la Maille de Paris, where I now also teach. Now I’m working on a variety of freelance projects and developing my own designs to sell.

My background is in architecture, so I love the structure and three-dimensionality of knitting. I love patterns that are constructed in ingenious ways and have interesting textures. I’m always learning new techniques and I can never get enough exploring different yarns and swatching them up into interesting fabrics.
