MATERIALS AND TOOLS
• Yarn for the body - 25 g of Lace/2 ply (wool or high quality thin acrylic yarn: approx. 870 yards (800 meters) per 100 g skein).
I used ‘Lidiya’ from Semenovskaya factory 1600 m per 100 g skein (crochet in 2 strands). If you take thicker yarn the weight and size of the horse will grow so you may need stronger wire.
• Yarn for the mane and the tail. I used ‘footwear capron’ (you can buy it on spools). You can also use any yarn or materials you like (viscose, silk, capron ropes, etc.). You can find white capron at a fishing shop.
• Steel hook 1.00 mm (US steel hook – 12, UK steel hook - 6 1/2).
(or any size matching the yarn).
• 120-150 cm (47-60 inches) of wire for the frame (amount depends on the size of the horse). If the wire is steel (preferably) its diameter should be 0.8-0.9 mm, if it’s copper – 1.2-1.4 mm. The wire should be quite hard and keep the shape well.
TIP: You can use steel wire from an old wall calendar (if you have one). Don’t forget to straighten it first.
• Two black beads (2-3 mm diameter) for eyes (you may also use “Position eyes” or safety eyes).
• Some white wool for felting the eyelids (you can use white mohair yarn).
• Needle for felting (thickness, approx. #36).
• Tapestry needle for tightening.
• Stuffing. It is better to use hollow fibre.
• Piece of plastic for hooves or 4 round and flat buttons or coins.
• Plaster - adhesive-backed fabric tape 1-1.5 cm wide to work up the wire (the tape you use to cover wounds (first aid)).
• Sewing thread of matching colors for tightening.
• Sewing needle.
• Clear glue for mane (optional).
• Eye shadows or pencils for tinting.
