Additional Info:
Knit with one strand of yarn.

  1. Cast-on diagram is at the top of p.93. You will do a long-tail CO around two needles because this CO row will begin both pattern A (knitting center to top) and pattern B (picking up CO edge and knitting center to bottom). The CO edge counts as Row 1 for both Pattern A and B. Work Pattern A from the center up. Do not bind off (you can put the live stitches on a lifeline of some sort - pattern doesn’t say).
  2. Pick up the indicated number of stitches from the cast-on edge. Work Pattern B from the center down for the indicated number of rows, make a purl row as seen in the 3rd edging chart (裾 bottom edge), then bind off - don’t do the chains until step 8 after the sides are seamed. For the specialty stitch, the diagram on the far right of p.55 is pretty straightforward, but the white triangle shows where you drop the stitch and let it unravel to the stitch indicated by the black star.
  3. Make the cord tie (ひも). Start with the chain heart on the left side of the diagram, then make the cord using the diagram (スレッド二重鎖編み) at the bottom of p.52 and two strands of yarn, then make the second chain heart.
  4. Use the 3-needle bind off for the shoulders. The diagram on the lower left of p.93 (はぎ) shows this done with a crochet hook.
  5. Work the sleeve cuff flat using the 2nd edging chart (袖口 sleeve cuff) to the bind-off edge.
  6. Seam the sides from the bottom hem to the sleeve cuff using the mattress stitch - the diagram (とじ) is on p.93.
  7. Pick up stitches from the front edges and neck and work the first edging chart including the chains (衿・前端 neck & front edge).
  8. Add the chain part of the edging to the bottom hem worked flat.
  9. Add the chain part of the edging to the sleeve cuffs in the round.
  10. Weave the cord in the neck/front chains.
