1:12th scale sampler cot cover

Buttercup Miniatures
Knitting
December 2009
Cobweb / 1 ply
US 5/0 - 1.0 mm
1:12th and 1:24th scale

PLEASE NOTE: This design was originally published on Buttercup Miniatures Blog as the 2009 Advent Calendar

This cot cover is made up of 24 small squares which when stitched together will make a cot quilt for a dolls house baby doll. The designs of the squares are kept simple so no matter how rushed you are, you can find ½ an hour a day to sit and relax with some miniature knitting. This also gives you the option, should you prefer not to knit certain types of pattern (such as cables/Aran or multi colour knitting), to duplicate a pattern for a square you like in another colour. This makes the project suitable for both novice and more experienced knitters. Due to the limited number of stitches and nature of the cot cover lace stitches have been excluded from the designs.

Materials required to knit the complete cot cover: Size 19 (1 mm/US size 5/0) knitting needles, 1-ply yarn – approx 12 metres/yards of each of six colours (this can also be knitted using scraps of wool you have in your work basket – you will need 1-3 metres of wool for each square depending on the complexity of the pattern), a cable needle is also required for some squares.

NOTE: Instructions are given for 1/12th scale squares, but if you wish to work the cot cover in 1/24th scale then use size 22 (0.70 mm/US size 6/0) knitting needles and No 80 crochet cotton or No 70 Tatting thread.

Size:
Each finished square measures approximately ½-inch/1.25 cm.
Finished size of cot cover is approximately 2-inches (5 cm) by 3-inches (7.5 cm) or with border 2½-inches (6.25 cm) by 3½-inches (8.75 cm)
