Here’s the 2015 Mystery Shawl from Sharon Mooney and Hands On Knitting Center. This pattern was only free until the last clue was given.

You will need 400 yds of a light worsted weight or dk weight yarn in EACH of a solid and a multi- colored.

Optional are 85 beads used in the bottom of the shawl, placed upon your solid yarn. You will string these on ahead of time, but there are ONLY 85 - so, not a big deal, right?!

This shawl has a couple of techniques that most of you will not have done before; one at the bottom of the shawl (involving the beads!) and one at the top. In between there’s some easy colorwork, some fancy, but not difficult stitchwork and a whole lot of fun!

This is a big shawl, it is good to have a nice contrast between the two yarns. I used Cascade 220 Superwash Worsted in a light grey and Madeline Tosh’s Tosh DK in turquoise, grey, etc (color Seawash). It is assymetrical and using 32” size US 7 (4.5mm) circular needles, works up fairly quickly.

There are some easy charted designs, but these charts are also written out for those who do not like working from charts.

I am starting a Ravelry group for the “2015 Mystery Shawl KAL”. Join!

You will automatically receive a ravelry message for each new clue. Have fun!

Directions:
Co with beads
Use beading needle to thread all of the beads onto the end of your mc (solid) yarn. Beads will be slid down the yarn toward the skein and kept out of the way until needed. Beads will be slid up to work as needed.
Using mc, size US 8 (5mm) circular needle and knitted co, co 18, (slide 5 beads all the way up to knitting, co 17) 17x, co 16 (306 sts).
Change to size US 7 (4.5mm) needles.
