Construction
This sweater starts with 3 options for the saddle (cable, twisted stitch, or basket weave options, as well as the option to change saddle color!)
This saddle shoulder sweater begins with two rectangular shoulder straps, each of which is worked form the neck edge to the armhole. The stitches are placed on holders, then stitches for the back are picked up along one selvedge edge of each strap, with stitches for the back neck cast on between between the two straps. The back is worked back and forth in rows as the armholes are shaped with increases. These stitches are then placed on a holder while the front is worked in two sections with stitches picked up along the remaining selvedge of each strap. The two halves of the front are worked separately in rows to the base of the neck shaping. The two front halves are joined and the arm holes are shaped with increases to match the back. The front and back pieces are then joined to work in the round from the armholes down.
Stitches for the sleeves are picked up and knitted around the armhole openings and worked in a series of short rows to shape the cap then joined and worked in rounds to the cuff.
The neck band is picked up and knit last.
Saddle instructions are charted only.
