“Leaf stitch pattern panniers with seed stitch gussets.”

From Vogue Knitting, Winter 2004/05:

“Norah Gaughan: ‘This year I met a wonderful man who loves to garden, and together we planted one chock-full of vegetables about 5 miles outside of town. Of course we needed a way to transport the copious bounty - thus the idea for panniers for the back of my bike. Here’s where my uncontrollable “yard-sale-ing” finally paid off; I used a set of antique handles to give the satchels structure and guarantee easy carrying. Ties made of leather cords adjust as the bags are filled. The rib and leaf pattern makes reference to the spokes of a bicycle wheel and the leaves of the garden at the same time - in a lighthearted way, I hope.’“
