GAUGE ALERT- Isager Alpaca 2 is a LIGHTWEIGHT fingering yarn with the somewhat looser, loftier twist of a traditional color work wool. I also recommend using US 0’s for a tighter gauge. (50 g - 273yds/250m)

I looked long and hard for a very lightweight, strong fingering yarn because I wanted to be able to string size 11/0 beads on it and because I love, love, love the look of a very small gauge.

Most Superwash-type Fingering Weight sock yarns,
(50g - 175-220 yds/160-200m), often spun tightly with a very springy, tubular twist, will not achieve my gauge.

I added a project to ‘The Byzantine’ pattern’s project page (called ‘Short Byzantine’) using Cascade 220 Fingering wool as an economical 100% wool yarn alternative. (Knit on US 0’s. Gauge - 11 sts/ 11.5 rows per inch.)

The Byzantine is a fully charted design for colorwork fingerless gloves worked in the round. Can be knitted with or without beads, in four sizes (pattern includes individual charts for each size).
