Holy Space Trivia! Did you know that Saturn has 53 official moons? It’s like a busfull of teen boys!

This semi-slouchy beanie is the second in the Year 13 space series. It employs short rows to create elliptical rings, and more short rows to balance out the crown for a hat that can be worn for several different looks. A few sneaky techniques ensure good colour joins, as well as matchy-matchy hidden wraps.
I encourage you to use a superwash merino or merino combo for this hat, as short rows really do benefit from a good wet blocking and the superwash means that your hat will retain good shape after a soaking.

Materials needed:

MC: 50g Malabrigo Arroyo (170yds/155m). Stick to solids and semi-solids for best effect.
CC: approx 5g Malabrigo Arroyo, or similar yarn (nb: I stripped a ply from Malabrigo Rios. As long as it knits at the same gauge, there is leeway to use a heavy 4ply to a light DK.)

3.00mm/US #2.5 16in/40cm circular needles,
3.25mm/US #3 16in/40cm circular needles,
3.25mm/US #3 dpns or your preference for small
circumference knitting
(Remember, needle sizes are indicative only. Always choose the needle size that achieves gauge!)
