Top down (knit from tip to cuff), “sore thumb” style mittens. Body has a double helix pattern, cuff has a band of vine-and-leaf pattern then a band of geometric rosettes.

Written as women’s medium. Instructions are given for making other sizes by varying the yarn weight/gauge, or for modifying the design for cases where one doesn’t wish to use a different yarn.

Colorwork is diagrammed in charts.

“This mitten is a good example of a wider band working on sore thumb mittens. The possibilities for 5-stitch bands are many…. They do not work well with an invisible thumb because the thumb would have to be inserted in the middle of the band for the mitten to fit.”
