Muffatees were once a quite common and practical garment, worn for extra warmth by both men and women. Today we call them cuffs and their use has become more decorative than practical, with the exception of those of us knitting or typing away on our computers in drafty old houses and offices.

I’ve compiled a collection of six muffatee patterns which have been derived from historic patterns or garments predating 1850. I’ve changed the terminology to modern terms. Occasionally I have changed the order of the stitches to make the knitting easier. And most importantly I have corrected the errors in the original patterns.

By joining the KAL you will receive 6 mystery pattern updates every two weeks, including the historic provenance for the pattern.
It’s never too late to join in as each update will include all of the previous patterns. The patterns will also be posted for individual sale ($4.00 per pattern) at the end of the knit along.

The Instructions for the patterns are both charted and written.

With the exception of the last pattern, which is two color, each pair of muffatees can be completed with one 50gr (180-200 yrds) skein of yarn. This a great opportunity to use your luscious fibers in your stash (camel, possum, quivet, alpaca, cashmere).
