  • Needles: Japanese size 15 (6.6mm)

Schematic Notes:

  1. Use a long-tail cast on, then join; this counts as round 1. The instructions suggest using two needles held together.
  2. Work the main cap pattern.
  3. See p.14 for instructions for closing off the top of the hat.
  4. Make a provisional chain cast on for the hat band (ベルト belt).
  5. Work the hat band pattern in 1x1 rib.
  6. Graft (Kitchener) the ends of the band together.
  7. Seam the band to the main cap with a slip stitch seam.
  8. Pick up stitches from the front edge of the band for the brim (ブリム) and work in pattern.
  9. Fold the brim towards the back side and sew the bound-off edge to the edge of the band.
  10. Use a mattress stitch seam for the sides of the brim.
