I was asked to modify the already updated Hemlock Ring Blanket into a 12 petal flower. From there, it seemed a natural extension to make it a semi-circular shawl/shawlette for a limited amount of special yarn.

Needles and yarn are left to the discretion of the knitter. I achieved a 48in blocked lap blanket with 400g of worsted weight yarn, and a 14in long shawlette with 300yds of DK weight yarn.

A point of clarification - the underlined portions in the pattern indicate where the last pattern repeat should end on the shawl version. For the blanket, work the entire row as written including the underlined portions. The underlining doesn’t indicate anything for the blanket version.

Please note, this is not the same as the other 12 petal modification out there. It has a different increase placement and rate both at the start and for the main portion of the feather and fan, and the twisted stitches and directional decreases are very explicitly set up to be mirrored. If you look at both versions, the curving lobes in this version are much shallower, and the central flower is slightly different. Additionally, there are my notes on working this as a semi-circular wrap, and how to do a very simple edging with crochet that doesn’t need heavy blocking.
