My friend Sandra, from my knitting group, put out a call for suggestions for a cowl pattern. Her soon-to-be-daughter-in-law, Maria, had seen a knitted cowl for sale in Tasmania and had asked her if she could reproduce it. However, it wasn’t a run of the mill shape - the description was that it was narrow at the back and rounded at the front, and that “it hangs down in waves”. And it was chunky.
Sounded like a design challenge to me, so this is was I came up with in a day and a half …
The cowl starts with a provisional cast on at the back of the neck. A ribbed section hugs the neck and it then splits into 3 loops, which hopefully “hang down in waves”. The cowl is completed with a 3-needle bind off, but you could graft the ends together for a neater finish. I have added a simple eyelet lace pattern to the central loop, but you can do this plain, or substitute a pattern of your choice. Go wild!
This cowl is one size, but easily adjustable - just knit each of the loops to the desired length.
