This family of hats uses unique construction to create a lined, super warm, easy care hat sized to fit every member of the family. A provisional cast on starts the facing/bottom trim in an easy 4 row stripe pattern. When the desired head circumference is reached, live stitches are grafted to the provisional cast on stitches. Stitches are then picked up along the top edge and the houndstooth pattern is worked using the traditional fair isle technique. The pattern changes back to the stripe pattern for crown shaping. Easy finishing includes folding the facing to the inside, leaving a 1/2” border at the bottom, and sewing into place. The facing covers the floats from the fair isle knitting which keeps them from getting caught on hair accessories or pulled by curious little fingers! Personalized embellishments could include an I-cord leaf with crochet flower for mom, just the flower for big sister, and a pom pom for little brother. Dad would probably prefer no embellishment at all. That’s OK, too! Pattern includes directions for head circumferences 16” (toddler), 18” (youth), 22” (woman) and 24” (man).
