Named for his paternal grandfather, Hamfast Gardiner was the seventh child of Samwise and Rosie (née Cotton) Gamgee. He had three younger sisters, Daisy, Primrose, and Ruby, and three younger brothers, Bilbo, Robin, and Tolman.

A Playsuit For Hamfast is a cozy easy to wear garment meant to go over a fabric romper for extra warmth in chilly weather. The buttoned front allows easy dressing, and the generous legs are closed with snug cuffs for a cute pear shaped profile. The bodice has a folded collar which is low in the front to keep drafts away from baby’s neck without being a swallowing hazard, and the overlapping sleeve trim keeps the bodice close to the body without drafty gaps when baby moves their arms. The heart motif is adorable for any gender.

Instruction Format:
The entire pattern is written; using written instructions for this pattern is required.
The mosaic stitch bodice is additionally charted; using charted instructions for this pattern is optional.

- 3.25mm (US size 3) needles or one size smaller than needle for gauge
- @420y (485y, 655y) colour A (main colour) and @180y (190y, 210y) colour B (contrast colour) sport weight yarn
- 2 stitch holders
- Darning needle for seams

Gauge: 24 sts x 48 rows
Stitch gauge is most important for the solid coloured sections of the pattern, as the legs and torso may be knitted to length regardless of row gauge. However, for the mosaic motif row gauge is as important as stitch gauge to ensure a good fit. You may need to use different needles to meet gauge for the mosaic section compared to the plain garter stitch section, so swatching for both is a good idea.
