ABA wrap is a classical cabled unisex design, but the construction is modern. The wrap is worked in pieces and it is easy to take along as “handbag knitting” for nomad urban knitters. Despite creating a long wrap, your carry-on project weighs less than 100 grams.

ABA wrap can be knitted in different lengths. A and B sections can be combined to create AA, ABA, ABBA wraps, depending on your creativity. The wrap is reversible and looks good on both sides and it does not roll in the ends or sides.

A section starts with a neat eastern cast on creating a double knitted brim in stockinette. The front and back of the brim are then joined, and a classical cabled grid pattern forms the main body of the wrap. A section ends with a double knitted brim in stockinette, left with live stitches.

B section has the same classical cabled grid pattern in the centre, and a double stockinette brim with live stitches in both ends. Stitches are cast on provisionally.

The ends of A and B sections with live stitches are joined together in the end with kitchener stitching.

Materials for two A sections and one B section:

Yarn: Les Petits Point Parisiens Absolu 100% merino SW (400m = 100g) in colourway Toffee, 3 skeins, a total of 1000 m / 1100 yards.

Alternative yarns:
Any fingering weight handdyed wool, soft enough to wear next to skin. You can use any yarn, but this will affect the size of the wrap, your gauge and the amount of yarn needed.

Needles: #2.5 (3,0mm) 3 circular needles of 80 cm.
US#4 (3,5mm) circular needle of 80 cm.
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker, two cable needles, row counter, waste yarn.

Gauge: 30 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm in cable pattern with #4 (3,5mm) needles, blocked.
28 sts and 38 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm in stockinette st with #2.5 (3,0mm) needles, blocked.

Gauge is not important for this design. You can knit the wrap with a tighter or looser gauge or use another yarn and get a bigger or smaller wrap.

Size: multiples of 32 x 55 cm / 12.5 x 21.6 inch:

AA wrap: 32 x 110 cm / 12.5 x 43.3 inch
ABA wrap: 32 x 165 cm / 12.5 x 65 inch
ABBA wrap: 32 x 220 cm / 12.5 x 86.6 inch etc.
