This is an intermediate to advanced lace project. The lace pattern is lacework both sides, no resting on WS rows. The edging lace pattern is charted and written out.

The pattern is very challenging to start, but once you get through the first 12 rows, you will be able to read your knitting and it gets much easier, so hang in there.

The shawl is constructed by knitting a length of edging, then picking up stitches along the straight edge and uses short rows to finish the body.

NOTES: The type of provisional cast on can make the start of Chart C tricky. I recommend a caston that leaves a circular or cable in the second row of stitches cast on like Judy’s Magic Cast On or any of the other provisional methods that create two rows to start.

If you use the regular crochet chain cast on, on the first row of Chart A, knit the first stitch rather than slip it as the chart and instructions say. This will set up your pick up for later and save much gnashing of teeth. Thank you raveldog!
