This hat for all ages features overlapping cabled diamonds, patterned after an acorn cap. Worked bottom up, in the round, it will be the perfect hat for your favorite wood elf.

Because the design is cabled bottom to top, it is not easy to change the length. Measure a hat that fits well, and knit the size that matches, regardless of age. Every head is different! Remember that it should be a couple of inches smaller around than the head. Several of my testers have commented that the hat runs a little large. It seems that my boys have big heads.

For this design, it is important for your pattern gauge to match. I recommend measuring your work in progress, and comparing the cable repeat to the listed measurements.
