Actinoptychus Heliopelta is a circle segment shawl featuring lace and stockinette stitch.

This pattern has been inspired by the illustration of the species Actinoptychus Heliopelta (Slide #4: Dinatomea, No. 16) in Ernst Haeckel’s book Kunstformen der Natur.

It is part of the Knitting Art Forms of Nature project.

You can knit this shawl with three or four leave segments. Default setup are three leaves. This pattern has only written instructions.

Details about the construction are given below together with schematics for both three and four leaves.
